Fungal Infections
Lulexa works by killing the fungus responsible for skin infections, including athlete's foot and ringworm. It disrupts the fungal cell membrane, inhibiting ergosterol synthesis, which is vital for the membrane structure.
Luliconazole, an azole-class antifungal, inhibits ergosterol synthesis by targeting lanosterol demethylase. This action leads to decreased ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, causing an accumulation of lanosterol.
In vitro assessment suggests luliconazole may inhibit CYP2C19 and CYP3A4, especially in moderate to severe tinea cruris. No in vivo drug interaction trials have been conducted. Luliconazole is not expected to inhibit CYPs 1A2, 2C9, and 2D6.
